Contracting
Renew a License
- Contracting licenses expire on November 30th of odd years.
- DOPL emails renewal notices to licensees' email address on file at least 60 days before the license expires. Licensees are responsible for updating their email address with DOPL to ensure they do not miss the renewal notice.
⚠️ Important Notice: Contractor license renewals cannot be completed using a mobile device. Please use a desktop or laptop computer to ensure your renewal is processed successfully.
To renew your license, you must have a UtahID. You cannot renew your license without using UtahID. UtahID is a virtual ID that allows you to access State of Utah online platforms. If you renewed online two years ago, you should already have a UtahID. If this is your first time renewing online, create your UtahID account and use it to access My License One through these steps:
- Create your UtahID:
- Go to the UtahID website: https://idhelp.utah.gov/
- Click on “Account Creation”
- Follow the on-screen instructions to create your username/email and password
- If you need help with your UtahID, please call (801) 538-3440.
- Link your UtahID to the MyLicenseOne Platform
- Close out of the UtahID website
- Go to the MyLicenseOne platform: https://utahdoc.mylicenseone.com
- Log in using your new UtahID Username/email and password
- Locate the “Existing License/Registration Holders” Section of the page
- Your license may already be listed here
- If not, you will need to get your registration code from the renewal reminder that will be sent directly to your email around September 1st.
- Click on the link “Don’t see your license? Click here to search for it.”
- Follow the instructions in the pop-up box to link your license. *Note: make sure to add the dash in your license number before the last 4 digits, and make sure there are no spaces before or after the numbers.
To check your continuing education (CE) hours, visit the contracting page on the DOPL website at https://dopl.stage.utah.gov/contracting/ and select continuing education. Utah contractors need 6 CE hours, 3 of which must be taught live (live webinar counts). Each course applies to all of your contracting licenses. How to check:
- On the right hand side of the page find the gray “Courses Taken” section.
- Enter your full license number including the -5501 suffix into the box below the title.
Missing hours?
If any courses are missing for any of your licenses, contact the educational provider directly and give them all of your license numbers. DOPL cannot manually add CE hours for you; providers are responsible for submitting that information.
